How to get from Bratislava to its famous neighbor Vienna? We will tell you about all types of transport that can be used to get from one city to another and vice versa. Stops, prices, schedules. We share useful links and tips.


Bratislava is often a transit point for those heading to Vienna, because the capitals are very close (only 79 km away), and there are convenient and regular connections between them. And now the Russian low-cost airline Pobeda also flies to Bratislava - it's just a sin not to use cheap tickets to the capital of Slovakia and visit two cities at once, or even more. In this article, we will consider all the available options to get from Bratislava to Vienna and vice versa (both from the airport and from the city): bus, train, catamaran, taxi.

Bus from Bratislava to Vienna

The easiest way to get from Bratislava to Vienna, including directly from the airport, is by bus. It's cheap, comfortable, fast. There are several carriers, so there is no need to worry about a lack of seats - there are many trips per day, but buses do not run at night.

Slovak Lines

You can get from Bratislava Airport to Vienna and vice versa by buses of the popular Slovak Lines company. Detailed route: Bratislava airport - Bratislava bus station - Wolfsthal - Hainburg - Vienna airport - Erdberg - Südtiroler Platz-Hauptbahnhof metro station (next to Vienna central railway station) and in the opposite direction.

Travel time is about 1.5 hours. A standard ticket costs 7.5 euros. Sometimes you can buy a Hot ticket for only 1 euro! Such tickets are purchased only in advance (for example, a month or two) and online - they will be sent to you by e-mail. Then, when you board, just show them from your phone. Flixbus

One way tickets cost from 5 euros. Buses from Bratislava Airport to Vienna Airport run every two hours. You can also leave from other stops in Bratislava: New Bridge (Most SNP), Einsteinova / Petržalka, bus station (Bratislava AS Mlynské Nivy, platforms 12 and 13). Carrier website: Flixbus.

Student Agency (RegioJet)

Another company with the help of which you can get from Bratislava to Vienna for only 5 euros one way is RegioJet, a subsidiary of Student Agency. A return ticket also costs 5 euros. Sometimes you can find promotional tickets for 1 euro (see the screenshot below) - they are highlighted with a yellow icon.

Buses run every hour. Travel time is about 1-1.5 hours. Buses of this company do not call to the Bratislava airport, but they go to Vienna. Stops from which you can go to Vienna: bus station, main railway station, New bridge, Einsteinov street, Nové Mesto. Carrier website: Student Agency.

Postbus

  • Bratislava to Vienna route: Bratislava - Hainburg / Donau - Vienna Airport - Vienna Hauptbahnhof.
  • Vienna to Bratislava route: Vienna - Vienna Airport busterminal - Bratislava Bus Station - Bratislava letisko (airport).

The ticket price is 7.70 euros one-way and 14.40 round-trip. 2 pieces of baggage - 2 euros (each subsequent piece of baggage - 2 euros). You can pay for your luggage on the bus. Website: postbus.at (follow the link - schedule, stops, prices).

Fly & Bus (if you fly on Pobeda)

Are you planning to fly to the capital of Slovakia on the Pobeda low-cost airline? Then it's easy for you to get from Bratislava airport to Vienna (to the main railway station Vienna Hauptbahnhof): you can buy a single Fly & Bus ticket - right on the plane and on the bus. True, it costs more than regular bus tickets (8.61 euros one way and 17.22 euros both ways), so it is more profitable to buy, for example, from Flixbus or try to find it at all for 1 euro from Student Agency or Slovak Lines.

2 pieces of baggage are free, for each next one you will have to pay 1 euro. On the Pobeda website it is recommended to arrive at the bus stop at least 15 minutes before departure (it is located next to the terminal). Have itinerary receipt with you. You can buy tickets here.

From Bratislava to Vienna (and vice versa) by train

This way to get from Bratislava to Vienna is as convenient as buses, but a little more expensive. The cheapest roundtrip tickets start at 14 euros (although sometimes there are discounts when you can buy tickets for 7 euros!). You can view schedules and buy tickets online at the following sites:

  • slovakrail.sk (Slovak railways);
  • oebb.at (Austrian railways);
  • bahn.de (German railways).

Tickets can also be purchased at train station ticket offices or from special ticket machines.

Where to take the train in Bratislava? They depart from Bratislava hlavná stanica (main railway station) and from Bratislava Petržalka station, and in Vienna arrive at the central station (Wien Hbf).

How to get from Vienna to Bratislava along the Danube

A rather exotic way to get from Bratislava to Vienna (and vice versa) is along the Danube River. It is more expensive, but more interesting: you do not just move from one city to another, but take a cruise. There are two popular carriers.

Twin city liner

For high-speed catamarans, tickets cost from 18 to 35 euros one way. The ships run from April (or more precisely, from March 31) to the end of October. Departure from Bratislava at 10:30, 14:30, 16:00, 18:30, 21:00, about an hour and a half on the way. Check the schedule and prices on the official website.

Address in Bratislava: Razusovo nabrezie, Ponton HUMA6, between the Old and New bridge. Vienna address: Franz-Josefs-Kai 2, Schwedenplatz / Kai.

LOD

You can also get from Vienna to Bratislava along the Danube by a hydrofoil express boat from LOD. The cost of tickets is slightly lower than for catamarans: one way - 20 euros, in both directions - 29 euros. Children from 6 to 15 years old get a 50% discount, up to 6 years old - free. The journey takes a little longer - 1 hour 45 minutes.

Departures from Vienna are at 17:30 in high season (from April 20 to September 11) and at 16:00 in low season (September 15 - October 23). Address: Schiffstation Reichsbrücke, Handelskai 265.

You need to arrive at check-in 15 minutes before departure. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during high season. Check the schedule and prices on the official website.

Taxi from Bratislava to Vienna

This option to get from Bratislava to Vienna is optimal for those who do not like public transport. But you need to understand that this is the most expensive way - the trip will cost about 60-70 euros. However, if you are traveling with friends or family, it will be cheaper. You can order a car in advance directly to the airport using the proven KiwiTaxi service - this way you will avoid queues, language barriers, route explanations and bargaining with the driver.

Car rent

For those who like to travel independently and with maximum comfort, it is better to rent a car. This can be done at the airport upon arrival or in advance on the Rentalcars.com website. You can return the car before departure, which is very convenient.
